TAMPA - Here are five things you need to know happening in Florida on Friday, February 10

(1) Humberto Delgado sentencing

Update at 9:18 a.m.: A judge sentenced Delgado to death for killing Corporal Roberts.

Convicted law enforcement murderer Humberto Delgado will be sentenced in a Tampa courtroom on Friday.

In November, a jury found Delgado guilty of the first degree murder of Tampa Police Corporal Mike Roberts. Jury members recommended Delgado receive the death penalty.

The 38-year-old Roberts was shot in the chest on August 19, 2009, while patrolling on Nebraska Avenue in a neighborhood where a string of burglaries had recently occurred.

Investigators say he observed Delgado pushing a shopping cart full of items and initiated a stop. Police say Delgado ran away from Roberts. They then got into a violent struggle. According to the police report, Delgado pulled out a gun, pistol whipped Roberts multiple times before shooting him on the right side of his chest, an area not covered by his bulletproof vest.

Roberts was rushed to Tampa General Hospital where he was pronounced dead less than an hour after the shooting.

Roberts served five years in the department's K9 unit and was promoted to corporal just a month before he was killed. Roberts is survived by his wife, Cynthia, and young son Adam.

The sentencing hearing begins at 8:30 a.m. at the Hillsborough County Courthouse.
