TAMPA, Fla. - On Tuesday night, our very own Linda Hurtado shared her decision to undergo a double mastectomy in her personal battle against breast cancer.

After seeing her grandmother and mother lose their lives to the devastating disease, she made the decision to remove both breasts to drastically reduce her chances of facing breast cancer again.  She had the surgery Wednesday afternoon.

Wednesday evening, her husband, Jorge Figueredo, let all of Linda's coworkers, friends, and fans know that that the surgery went off without a hitch.

“It was a success,” he wrote on Linda’s Facebook page.

Linda’s doctors told Jorge that her lymph nodes were clean and everything went well.

"Linda is currently in recovery and I cannot wait to see her.  This has been the longest 5 hours of my life," he wrote.

"I am very proud of Linda and [the] choice to share something so personal with everyone. My hope is that her story will motivate those of you who are delaying to make your mammogram appointments," Jorge said.

As she recovers, her husband says they appreciate the support and well wishes.  “We thank all of you and the viewers for all the love and prayers,” Jorge said.

We will continue to update you with her progress as she continues recovering.
