If your toddler can’t say “Hello, baby” by the age of 2, that may be a serious sign that something’s amiss in the areas of language development, the New York Daily reports.
New research has identified a 25 “must have” list of words that toddlers should be able to rattle off at the 2-years-old milestone. The words, including hello, baby, mommy, daddy, are the most popular out of 310 and typically a breeze for chatty children.
But 2-year-olds that have not mastered the list may show signs of autism, development delays or hearing problems, according to Leslie Rescorla, director of the Child Study Institute and Bryan Mawr College who created the list.
Rescorla says that 2-year-olds should have 50 words they can use and combine into phrases.
