TAMPA - The price of gas in Florida is on the rise.  According to AAA, the price is up 6 cents over the past week and over 20 cents from this time last year.

"It's a little ridiculous. Everybody's trying to save money but we need the transportation, the gas," said Amy Allen.

So how about saving 20 percent on your next fill up? Publix and Winn Dixie are both running promotions to help you save at the pump.

Alexis Mueller from the Tampa Bay Business Journal thinks its a good deal for both the customer and the supermarket.

"The supermarket business is so competitive, the margins to make money and profit are tight. They're looking for anything to get people in the door," said Mueller.

Winn Dixie's gas discount is a loyalty card program. Come in and shop, the more you spend on groceries, the more you save on gas. Publix is offering a $50 gas card for $40 after you spend $25 on groceries. You need the coupon from this weeks flyer, but you can get that at the store.

You can sign up for Winn Dixie's Fuelperks! in the store or online.   The offer from Publix is only good through January 11.
