TAMPA - Tampa homeowner Polly Karntakosol, like so many of her neighbor,s took advantage of the equity in her home during the boom.
Karntakosol refinanced and wound up with a fluctuating interest rate that left her unable to keep up with the payments. She filed modification papers with her bank twice, but says she was denied both times.
Then the homeowner heard about Bay Area Legal Services. The agency represented her at mediation.
Attorney Tom DiFiore says the agency received more than $300,000 from the robo-signing bank settlement. They are using that money to help as many troubled homeowners as possible.
Help is available for owner-occupied properties in Pasco and Hillsborough Counties. In Karntakosol's case, Bay Area Legal Services mediated a modification with her lender that dropped her interest rate to two percent and cut her payment nearly in half.
Bay Area Legal Services hopes to save many homes in the bay area thru this additional assistance. You can reach them at bals.org .
