Most of us cringe when the gas gauge hits empty but not Janet Paula.
This Riverview resident never pays more than $1.50 a gallon for gas how? Two ways first she uses a Winn Dixie loyalty card that offers fuel discounts with the purchase of certain groceries. “I get the ads every week. I will look through them. My kids eat peanut butter and jelly so I am going to go ahead and buy peanut butter and jelly and earn 5 cents off gas for doing just that,” Said Paula.
The rewards accumulate all month long. Redemption is as easy as swiping the card at the pump I watched as Paula pumped 17 gallons into her mini van and only paid $2.07.
The Fuel Rewards Network earns its card holders a discount of 10 cents a gallon at Shell stations for every 50 dollars they spend at certain retailers and restaurants.
Other gas saving offers don't require any card. Kmart has teamed up with BP for its own rewards program. Spend 50 dollars or more and get 10 cents off per gallon up to 20 gallons. All you need is the receipt. And every few weeks Publix publishes 10 dollar off coupons toward a 50 dollar BP gas card with a 50 dollar grocery purchase. It’s like getting 10 dollars worth of gas free. Janet estimates she saved 3 grand on gas last year alone using rewards programs.
