BRANDON, Fla. - Small business owner Alex Cribby replaced the big screen that hung on the wall after the first one disappeared. The customer says the repairman left with his 42-inch Samsung and a $60 deposit but never returned.
Hillsborough's Chief Consumer Protection Investigator Kevin Jackson says his office has fielded dozens of similar complaints involving different repairmen. He recommends consumers do three things before taking a TV in for repairs.
Check complaint records with the BBB or the consumer protection offices in Hillsborough or Pinellas counties. Call the store where you purchased the TV to get recommendations for repair or contact the manufacturer for a list of authorized service providers.
Cribby hired Minute Man TV, a company with a history of complaints. I contacted the business and was told the owner was closing up shop but was working to return customers' televisions.
The very next day they returned the still broken TV. This consumer hopes his story serves as a lesson to other consumers.
