TAMPA, Fla. - To understand Richard Kent's attachment to his cat, you need to know a little about the man.

“It was my mother's cat, and my mother died in January,” he said.

For Richard, Tewksbury is all that's left of his family.

Last week, Tewksbury slipped out. Richard found him later that night with injuries to his neck, side and leg.

Richard told us he spent hours on the phone calling veterinarians with an offer to make payments toward Tewksbury’s' treatment.

"They said no and I said why not and they said doctors have to make money too."

We relayed Richard's story to the Humane Society of Tampa Bay. One of their vets treated Tewksbury right away.

The Humane Society's Wellness Clinic put Tewksbury back together and allowed Richard to make a $25 down payment toward the $118 bill.

"The whole point of the clinic is to help pets stay in the homes with people who love them," said Humane Society Executive Director Sherry Silk.
