TAMPA - Citizens says it's making significant changes to its home inspection program.  The state-run insurer is responding to policy holders' outrage over lost discounts.

Pasco County home owner Holly Green paid for a wind mitigation inspection in order to obtain a discount on her homeowner's policy.

Holly says she hired a qualified inspector but then she received a letter from Citizens saying they were going to re-inspect.

Senator Mike Fasano claims Citizens' old inspection program cost Green and 193,000 others around $137 million in discounts.

Under the new plan, homeowners who lose insurance discounts due to re-inspection can receive a second inspection free of charge. Citizens is also offering more options for homeowners who opt to dispute an inspector’s findings.

What about  the thousands of policy holders like Green who lost discounts to the old inspection program? Citizens is offering a second inspection between now and next August regardless of the date of the original inspection.
