WASHINGTON - The Consumer Product Safety Commission and Lasko have announced a voluntary recall of about 4.8 million box fans because of an electrical problem that can pose a fire hazard.

The CPSC says Lasko has received seven reports of fires linked to electrical failures of the fan's motor.

Owners of the box fans should looked at the bottom of the box fans for the model number. The affected Lasko box fans show model numbers 3720, 3723, and 3733, as well as Galaxy box fans with the number 4733, with a date stamp of "2002-03" or "2003-04."

The fans were sold nationwide from July 2002 through December 2005 with price tags between 12 and 25 dollars.

If you own one of the recalled fans, the CPSC advises owners to stop using the fans immediately. You can contact Lasko at 877-445-1314 for a free safety adapter to attach to the fan's plug. Also for more information on the recall, go to www.cpsc.gov .
