ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The King and I Restaurant located at 445 Central Avenue in St Petersburg serves up sushi and thai food but there were extra ingredients not on the menu in the kitchen, according to the most recent health inspection.

On September 27, state inspectors issued a stop sale after finding "hundreds of weevil-like insects" on the walls, equipment and food storage bins.

Inspectors ordered the restaurant to throw out 45 lbs. of rice, 10 lbs. of sugar, 20 lbs. of chopped nuts, and 20 lbs. of salt because the weevil-like insects were crawling in and on the food.

So ABC Action News anchor Wendy Ryan visited the restaurant to see if the insect problem is fixed.

Ruriya Jiemngern, a worker there, said the owner, Suda, who is also her mom, was not there so she called her.

When Ryan spoke to Suda over the phone, Suda said all of her employees are being retrained and she agreed to answer the rest of Ryan's questions at a later date.

Other critical violations documented in September included garlic oil mix and shell eggs at an unsafe temperature, raw chicken stored with cooked pork and beef, and the sushi chef multi-tasking without ever washing his hands.

On June 9, inspectors observed one gallon of soup being improperly cooled and issued another stop sale, no certified food manager on duty and an employee re-using a utensil to taste the food and never sanitizing it.

The owner did not respond on camera, but had an attorney send a written response.
