The 2012 Tampa Bay Host Committee and the Republican National Committee's Committee on Arrangements' FEC reports show a number of local businesses benefited from the RNC.
While some small businesses lost money due to the security restrictions in downtown Tampa, other companies learned how to benefit from a large event. That experience will come in handy the next time a big event is held here.
A new shuttle operating frequently between downtown and the Westshore district or Tampa International Airport is on the drawing boards.
That could help people living in those areas. A study released this month found transportation expenses have increased by 44 percent since 2000 in the nation's 25 largest metro areas, including Tampa Bay.
Nearly 1,000 nominations in 65 categories were received in the 2nd annual Tampa Bay Business Journal's Readers' Choice Awards. The awards honor those businesses that readers value the most.
