Glasses go in and out of style as much as the latest fashion trends. So make sure your spectacles reflect your personality and fashion sense.
Arizona optometrist Dr. Kerry Pearson says glasses are an accessory and you need to make sure the frame styles also accentuate your face.
Here are his four glasses trends for the season.
Frames with a retro or vintage influence demonstrate this trend the best -- they have a slight cat eye shape and are typically dark in color which creates a bold look are becoming more and more popular. You can even take a pair of sunglasses and turn them into optical, like with the classic Ray-Ban Wayfarer and Clubmaster. Many celebrities are sighted wearing this look -- think of Justin Timberlake and Kevin McHale from Glee as well as Tina Fey and Taylor Momson from Gossip Girl. These are statement-making frames that will give you a classic look.
These frames are lightly hued in nearly clear blush, blue and grey tones. You'll see this trend reflected in frames that are fully transparent while others will interpret this trend through mesh and ombre or fade details. You can dress any outfit up or down in these glasses and they'll match nearly everything. It gives you a softer look and offers some visual interest because they are definitely not basic.
The way this trend is interpreted in eyewear is through metal details and tones. You can bring out your inner modern warrior by selecting eyewear with metal details. Think of embossed metal temples, flat metal details and logo treatments. The offering of these frames in a taupe and muted metallic tones is a nod to the safari/modern warrior trend too. You can even take this trend more literally if you think about the materials - for instance Ray-Ban offers a range of carbon fiber glasses that make them super durable and lightweight, which is a benefit if your active and on the go. These frames tend to be a little more conservative in style and will work nicely if you want more clean and simple look.
Gem stone colors are the big trend, reds, purples, violets, and deep blues. We can even take this trend literally with crystal detailing on the temples. You can have a lot of fun with this trend. If you have to wear a uniform, having a flashy pair of glasses can help you express yourself and stand out in crowd. It's also a really easy way to incorporate color in to your wardrobe.
