There was a time when having sex with a woman meant a wedding ring, a court ship or at the very least, dinner. But social psychologists say those days are quickly coming to an end as women become more promiscuous, Yahoo Shine reports.

More than 25 percent of young women are having sex with men within the first week of dating, while 30 percent of men’s sexual relationships have no romance at all, according to studies .

Why the societal shift? Kathleen Vohs from the University of Minnesota says it’s partly economics 101, the price of sex has dropped.

“The price of sex is about how much one party has to do in order to entice the other into being sexual,” said Vohs, who has authored several papers on “sexual economics.”

Although there are women that don't have sex without commitment, there are more than enough competitors who will sleep with a man for a lot less commitment and little to no dating, allowing men to get a lot of bang for their buck.

Other things that are said to have contributed to these changes include gender equality, birth control and internet porn.
