SARATOGA SPRINGS, New York - Toby Keith and Willie Nelson sang about it in their country song, but at the Saratoga Race Course, it's the real deal. Trainers like Derek Ryan include beer in the feedings of all of their horses.

"Yeah, we give a little carrots, but they're for rabbits,” Ryan says.

Guinness beer's long-time slogan is "Guinness is good for you" and some trainers says it's the only beer good for their horses.

"It's the yeast,” says Ryan. “In Guinness that puts them on to eat it, I think."

Ryan's had some success.

His horse Musket Man finished third in two legs of the Triple Crown and finished third in the Whitney.

When word broke that Ryan gives his horses Guinness, the company sent some to him.

"They did an article in Churchill, when I ran Musket Man in the Kentucky Derby, they give us one lousy free case. That's all they gave us," according to Ryan.

Beer fans at the racetrack say they’re all for brew for the horses.

"Whatever makes the horse happy. That's what you do,” exclaimed a fan.
