Did 'younger' hosts work for the Oscars?

So, did it work?

Oscar organizers entrusted 28-year-old Anne Hathaway and 32-year-old James Franco to co-host this year’s Academy Awards.

"Anne, I must say, you look so beautiful and so hip," Franco said during the show’s open.

Hathaway replied, "You look very appealing to a younger demographic as well.”

The dichotomy between old and young was palpable at times during this year’s Oscars.

With slurred speech from a stroke, 94-year-old Kirk Douglas came on stage with a cane to present the award for best supporting actress.

"Where were you when I was making pictures," Douglas asked Hathaway.

Presenter Justin Timberlake used a smart-phone "app" to show off a "Shrek" backdrop during another segment.

The Academy Awards also took time to remember images and music from decades old Oscar-winning films like "Gone with the Wind" and "Star Wars.”

And at the end of the show, students from a grade school in New York closed the program by singing the classic, “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.”
