TAMPA - Ready for for this week's 10 Questions? It's a fun online article we publish every week featuring a top newsmaker or community member.
This week it's our very own Wendy Ryan.
Many of us can barely remember what we did at age four. But Wendy started doing something at that age that likely was the catalyst for her career in television.
Here are 10 Questions For ABC Action News anchor Wendy Ryan:
1. What is your all time favorite movie or song?
I don't have one favorite movie but I am a hopeless romantic and enjoy a good love story including: Titanic, The Bridges of Madison County, Sleepless in Seattle and Breakfast at Tiffany's. My new favorite song is "In My Daughter's Eyes" by Martina McBride. I discovered it on the way to the hospital one day when my baby was in ICU and it just brought me to tears. So I went out and bought the CD. Now, I cannot stop listening to it!
2. Do you have a Smartphone? If so, what's your favorite app?
I have a blackberry - no favorite apps - but I am addicted to texting!
3. Who do you count as your mentor(s)?
Investigative Reporter Laurie Stein, who's also a very good friend. We worked together many years ago. She taught me how to dig deeper for information, make each story compelling and the importance of ethics. I still look up to her and all of her accomplishments.
4. What was your very first job?
I was a hostess at El Torito Restaurant in Scottsdale, Arizona.
5. If you could change one thing about yourself what would it be?
I would be taller…MUCH taller! (I'm barely over 5 feet).
6. What do you consider your greatest success?
My beautiful baby girl Raquel. She’s truly a miracle. And marrying my husband Jerome. He teaches me every day how to take things in stride and see the humor in the most challenging situations.
7. Tell us something about you most people don't know?
I was a child model and actress...started at the age of 4. I did local and national TV and radio commercials, after-school specials, soaps and movies.
8. If you could have dinner with any three people, living or dead, who would they be?
My dad. He passed away a few years ago and I miss him all the time. Also my aunt and grandma, who have also passed away. It saddens me they will never get to meet my daughter and I’d like to tell them all one more time how much I love them and miss them.
9. What is in your fridge right now?
Fruits, veggies, water bottles and vanilla creamer for my caffeinated coffee…remember I have a newborn ;)
10. If you could have a different career, other than what you're doing now, what would it be?
I would love to be a fitness instructor on TV. I've been teaching aerobics since I was 16 and still teach. But getting paid for it on TV?! That seems like a cool gig!
