ONE DIRECTION gave four fans the scare of their lives by posing as statues in a London waxwork museum and springing to life when the unsuspecting girls got up close.

The youngsters were under the impression they were visiting Madame Tussauds to film a promotional video, and had no idea they had actually been selected to meet the boyband as part of a segment on U.K. TV series Surprise Surprise.

The singers, who wore make-up to give their skin a 'waxy' appearance, stood next to figures of Beyonce and Britney Spears, stifling laughter as their excited fans inspected them.

One of the girls seemed suspicious of how life-like the boys were, commenting, "It's really odd... I swear Liam (Payne) just moved!" - and the boys then leaped into action.

The episode of Surprise Surprise airs in the U.K. on Sunday (18Nov12).
