RUSKIN, Fla. - Sandy Duran and her son Diego discussed the danger of celebratory gunfire on Wednesday before holding a fundraiser for their non-profit organization.
Diego was critically injured when he was hit in the head by a bullet on New Year's Eve 2012. Eighteen months later he has made a full recovery. The person who shot Diego has never been identified.
From 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. the first fundraiser for their Bullet Free Sky organization will take place at the Firehouse Cultural Center at 101 1st Avenue NE in Ruskin.
"We'll have raffles from local businesses, a bounce house for the kids, food and barbecue," said Sandy Duran. "We're really excited to have a live performance from Kelly Emerson and Gary Garbelman, who have been kind enough to offer their talent and time to perform from 6 to 8 p.m. There will also be gun safety demonstrations."
