When you need woods

Last Update: 12/10/2008 11:30 am
When you need power to send the ball sailing down the fairway, woods are the tool of choice. Their long shafts and heavy heads develop a lot of force on the downswing. When choosing your set of clubs, a driver and a three-wood are the standard ones to carry. The driver is the basic club for tee shots, and the three-wood is best for long drives from the fairway. For female golfers, a five-wood and seven-wood should replace the two- and three-irons recommended for men, although some male golfers also prefer the higher numbered woods instead of long irons. Graphite, titanium, ceramics, and other materials have replaced the traditional wood in most modern clubs. It's best to seek advice from a professional to pick out the ones that are best suited to your game. When you shop for woods, pay close attention to the shafts. You could run into problems with your swing if the flex of the shaft in your woods is different from that of your other clubs.
