Searching for a new boat

Last Update: 12/10/2008 2:24 pm
There's a lot to consider when you're thinking about getting a boat. Who will use the boat? Will it be family or friends? This may have a bearing on the size. How will you use the boat? Will you be fishing, water skiing, Cruising, taking day trips, weekend trips or weeklong excursions? If you enjoy fishing, you may want a different boat than if you're going to spend your day on water-skis. Once you've decided on the activities, pay a visit to the show room and look at the boats in the category you're considering. After you've examined the boats and asked the dealer about special package prices, take the information, and go home. It's important that you keep your emotions in check and think about the information objectively. Once you've narrowed down your list, take another look. Are there high quality, oversized components such as knobs and cleats? Do the hatches fit snugly? It's a good idea to inspect everything from the motor to the handrails. Carefully run your hand up inside areas you can't see and feel the finish, but keep in mind that price may guide your tolerance for imperfections.
