What can I do to prevent identity theft?

Last Update: 2/25 4:51 pm
Identity theft occurs when someone obtains and uses a person’s identity information, such as a name, address, date of birth, social security number or mother’s maiden name to commit fraud.  Here’s how to protect yourself:
  • Ask your bank, doctor’s office, other businesses and your employer if they protect your personal information
  • Never carry your social security card, number, or driver’s license number on a credit card sales receipt
  • Shred all personal documents before placing them in the trash
