LARGO, FL -- Dating service "Bringing People Together" is reputable and legitimate. Still this consumer felt she was not getting what she paid for.
At 71, Connie found herself looking for a second chance at love.
"This is Angelo. We were together for 26 years," she said.
Connie, who has asked not to be identified, spent months mourning the loss of her soul mate. Then she decided to move forward.
"I just really want to go back into the stream of life, doing things again," she said.
In July, Connie paid Bringing People Together $2800 for an 18 month VIP membership. In return the agency gave her a written guarantee.
"The promise is that I would find someone in 18 months," she said. "The first three introductions - two were disconnected and the other was 84-years-old.”
Connie requested prospective suitors be no older than 80. The service sent her the names and numbers of eight more potential dates. Connie tells me one of the eight was a woman and the men were either looking for a younger woman or they did not return her call.
"What did you get for $2800?" Jackie Callaway asked her.
"So far I have not had one date," said Connie.
Bringing People Together started match making back in 1977. The Better Business Bureau Report gives the business a "B+" in part because they do resolve complaints.
The general manager told us she never received the letter Connie wrote addressing her concerns.
In a statement, Bringing People Together told Jackie Callaway, "Once it was brought to our attention that the customer was having problems with her membership, we resolved the issues. We are refunding 50 percent of the membership fee and continuing her membership for the remaining months."
"A couple of days later I got six introductions," said Connie.
The agency plans to return $1,500 of her fee within the next several days.
