Cancer treatment in a spa-like setting

Last Update: 6/19 2:48 pm
TAMPA,FL -- Carole Sanek came to Moffitt Cancer Center for a follow up to breast cancer treatment.

Something’s new, a Center for Women's Oncology, that means a one-stop-shop opportunity for patients like her.

"We’d like to allow women to come to the Moffitt Cancer Center to receive all of the care they need under one roof, without having to travel from office to office, across the city from one hospital to another. We'd like to provide women with the opportunity to experience cutting edge care in a single institution."

"The most important thing is when you get your mammogram done here at Moffit you get it read the same day. You know before you go home if you have a negative mammogram, or you need to be seen further.”

But that's not all. The new oncology center offers a spa like setting with amenities that might seem inconsequential, but are actually a part of over all cancer treatment.

"They would like us to be responsive to their needs outside of simply shrinking their tumors and killing caner cells. Women patients, families have demanded additional aspects of supportive care including those related to sexual function, spiritual needs, emotional needs, massage, dietary information, acupuncture. We aim to give women a holistic experience here that is supportive of all their needs."

"I look for a place that makes women feel comfortable because at this time in your life when your going through a diagnosis of cancer whether its gynecological or breast, you need to feel comfortable."
