ST PETERSBURG, FL -- AARP, the influential lobby is expected to endorse the Democratic House health care reform bill on sometime today.

Today the group is holding a national press conference to discuss the next steps in health care reform.

According to a AARP news release, "Americans 50-plus have much at stake in the health-care debate.  AARP leaders will discuss the state-of-play on critical issues including closing the Medicare prescription drug “doughnut hole” and cracking down on health insurance companies’ discrimination against older Americans."

Democratic House leaders are pushing for a vote on the floor by weeks end.The bill would establish a new government insurance plan, which would compete with private insurers around the country. It will also expand Medicaid. That will be partially paid for through cuts to Medicare.
