TAMPA, FL -- A sports Web site is reporting that the University of South Florida men's basketball program violated NCAA rules.
Many of the allegations, published on FanHouse.com, focus on USF video and conditioning assistant Terrelle Woody who, according to the report, "was hired Aug. 26, 2008, in a non-coaching position by USF coach Stan Heath as part of a package deal to guarantee the signing of highly touted Maryland transfer Gus Gilchrist."
The report goes on to say, "The violations include Woody providing transportation to student-athletes, watching "open gyms," coaching players and illegally working out USF players."
Woody was found to have facilitated "open gyms" at Maryland. When notified back then that the players would have to pay gym rental fees, the facilitation stopped.
A few weeks later, Gilchrist put in for a transfer. Not long thereafter, Gilchrist transferred to USF. Woody followed two months later.

USF has a shoot-around at noon today in Charleston before their tournament opener against Davidson. USF officials have notified the media that the short practice will be closed and coaches/players will not talk about the alleged NCAA violations.
However, at the conclusion of the USF-Davidson game tonight, Head Coach Stan Heath will have to address the media. Perhaps then Heath will expand more on these recent allegations.
At this point in time, there has been no comment from Athletic Director Doug Woolard.
The athletic department is in the process of gathering all the information, conduct their own investigation, and then if necessary, contact the NCAA.
