Saturday was a very pleasant day.  My wife and I spent most of it with my wife's sister, husband and two daughters on St. Pete Beach.

They came down to Florida to relax, escaping the cold weather and winter storm's that have swept through the midwest.

As we walked on the beach, which I haven't done in God knows how many years, we conversed, the girls were taking video pictures to send back to their friends up north, and we all were relaxed.  No stress.

I must confess, I didn't watch a lick of television Saturday, and didn't know of Urban's Meyer's decision to step down until this morning.

You didn't have to be a close associate of the program to know that caution was  thrown to the wind when Urban was hospitalized after Florida's loss to Alabama.

Any man or woman passionate about their job can understand what has caught up with Urban Meyer.  Stress that silently builds up.  A person so immersed in their career, dedicated to success, they don't have time or discount what is happening to them inside.

Looking at that December day, Urban received a thankful warning.  Some don't.

So, around 4:30pm this afternoon, Urban Meyer will walk up to the podium at the Sugar Bowl's initial press conference to talk about his decision to retire after the Cincinnati game.

When you are so passionate about something as he is about coaching, I can't fathom the degree of angst he went through to make this decision.

Gator Nation shouldn't be stunned.  When you are as successful a program as Florida is, stress comes with the territory.

I remember listening to a Meyer news conference before the SEC Title Game when he addressed what it is like to be a Florida Gator.

He said if you are a player or a coach who isn't totally dedicated to being the best, Florida is not the place for you.  There are other football programs you can kick back without pressures.  Enroll or coach there, not at Florida.

If you watched ABC Action News that week, we ran that sound bite.  It told the entire story.

I commend Urban Meyer for stepping back and putting himself and his family first.  No job is worth risking your health.  Urban met face to face with that decision.

I don't worry about Florida's football program.  It will survive.  I just say to Gator Nation, this is a second actuality of something we talked about when Steve Spurrier left.  Don't ever assume anyone will be there for a long time.

Just live in the moment, which by anyone's football standards, has been quite remarkable at Florida.
