I’ve heard a crock before from players, but DL Albert Haynesworth has vaulted into the top three.
Listen to this. Haynesworth told Sirius Radio that he could have earned a lot more money if he signed with the Bucs instead of the Redskins.
Haynesworth declined, saying he wanted to be part of a team in a big market, like Washington D.C.
Haynesworth said Washington’s huge media market would lend opportunity beyond football.
Here’s where I almost fell off my chair. Haynesworth said Tampa doesn’t have a huge fan base like the Washington Redskins.
Listen Albie, you are wrong. By pure numbers, yes. However, numbers don’t make a fan base, people’s passion do.
Albie, admit it, it was all about the money. It was all about you. Maybe you think you’ll land some kind of network job after football. A job you think you’d never attain coming to Tampa.
Tell that to John Lynch, Tony Dungy, Warren Sapp, Dave Moore, Jon Gruden, and Keyshawn Johnson.
Maybe you thought you’d get an opportunity to watch TV on the White House’s big screen.
Maybe you were just excited to have a national audience for the first time in a while.
You got so caught up in the moment, you decided to diss Tampa Bay Buccaneer fans (despite saying Tampa was a great city.)
If you want me to believe that you could have signed for a lot more money with the Bucs, forget it.
You found an owner, Daniel Snyder, who is always willing to make the big monetary splash. Tampa Bay would have never won that battle. Snyder’s ego wouldn’t let it.
You knew it. Your agent knew it. Snyder ended up overpaying for you.
See you down the road. In fact, the fourth game of the regular season. Let’s see you put up those HUGE NUMBERS on that Sunday. Number commensurate with your out-of-whack contact.
Thanks for the pot shot.
