Josh Freeman admits there are some nerves.
Who can blame him.
Anytime someone essentially hangs the future success of a company, or in this case an NFL team, on your shoulders, what person, let alone a 21 year old, wouldn’t experience a case of the jitters.
I’ll say this much about Freeman, while still laid back, he did seem to say some of the things I was hoping he would have said weeks ago, namely “no one likes to sit and watch…I’m ready to let her rip.” A few weeks ago, his super laid back demeanor had me thinking other wise when he basically said “what I’m told to do, I will do.”
Now he’s being told to lead this franchise. All indications are that he will.
Jeff Faine commented on how Freeman took complete command of the huddle during his limited play in London. As simple as that seems, it speaks volumes. But nothing spoke more loudly to me today than former Buccaneer great Doug Williams who compared Freeman to future Hall of Famer Brett Favre “He’s(Freeman) a gunslinger….there’s a 40 year old in Minnesota who has done pretty well for himself as a gunslinger.”
Many have pointed to the irony of the Bucs wearing their throwback creamsicle uniforms this Sunday which are so often associated with the teams historic losing ways…perhaps the irony is that they face the Green Bay Packers, and a gunslinger will once again be under center….this time for the Bucs.
