Steven Stamkos scored twice and added an assist,
as the Tampa Bay Lightning took a 5-2 win over the Ottawa Senators at St. Pete
Times Forum.
Ryan Malone had a goal and two assists, while Alex Tanguay had a goal and an
assist for the Lightning, who have won two of three. Mike Smith made 21 saves
in the victory.
Alex Kovalev and Jarkko Ruutu had the goals for Ottawa, which has lost three
of four. Brian Elliott let in all five goals on 27 shots.
The Lightning had nearly total control of the contest, scoring all their goals
before the Senators got on the board.
Stamkos got Tampa started with a power-play score at 7:20 of the first period,
when the puck caromed off his stick, then hit the foot of Ottawa defenseman
Filip Kuba before getting past Elliott.
Then, 4:34 into the second period, Todd Fedoruk made it a 2-0 game after
finding the puck in a crowd in front of the crease and sliding it across the
goal line.
Martin St. Louis had an unsuccessful penalty shot midway through the frame,
but Malone's score with 5:12 left put the Lightning up three.
Stamkos' second goal, again on the man advantage, came 7:09 into the third,
after he skated around defenseman Chris Phillips along the right boards and
buried the puck past Elliott.
Tanguay scored 80 seconds later to make it a 5-0 game. Ruutu got Ottawa on the
board at 10:17, and Kovalev tallied four minutes later, but Smith stopped the
remaining shots to seal the win.
