TAMPA, FL -- Remembering the names of hundreds of students is certainly not an easy task for anyone, but it is a goal that Carol Brown sets for herself every day at Tampa's Temple Terrace Elementary School.
Brown, the Assistant Principal at the school, believes the only way to make a difference in the lives of her students is to know what's going on in their lives.
Ava Hill, Brown's sister, says her "caring and compassionate nature" is the reason she felt compelled to nominate Brown for our Head of the Class Award.
Hill says, "she makes a point of knowing not only the students but their families as well. She extends her duties as an assistant principal to include assisting students' families when they need help. It doesn't matter how busy she is, if a student or a family needs her assistance, she will go out of her way to extend a helping hand."
Creating stronger families has been a crusade for Brown ever since she arrived at Temple Terrace Elementary four years ago.
She is passionate about the importance of parental involvement and goes above and beyond the call of duty to organize parent literacy nights, math and science hands-on training for families and she even opens the computer lab for families that don't have access to computers at home.
Ms. Brown continues to make student achievement a top priority and for that we honor her with our Head of the Class Award.
