TAMPA, FL -- Michele Nelson combined her flair for writing with her love for children to create what she calls her "dream job".
This fourth grade writing teacher at Tampa's Roosevelt Elementary School hopes to inspire the world's next great author.
"My goal at the start of every school year is to help my students grow as writers and to develop a love of writing. I want them to view writing as something they are passionate about doing instead of something they have to do."
Her teaching methods and enthusiasm in the classroom are a huge hit with her students and also their parents.
Winnie Jackson nominated Ms. Nelson for our Head of the Class award. She writes, "I have never seen a teacher who cares so much about students doing well as Ms. Nelson does."
Jackson's daughter is a student in Ms. Nelson's class and her son is a former student.
She says, "her son did not like writing at first but Ms. Nelson made him much better."
Jackson also says her daughter has gone from hating writing to it now being one of her favorite subjects.
Jackson goes on to say, "After 30 plus years of teaching, Ms. Nelson cares as much today as she did when she first started."
I suspect her passion for teaching is very similar to her philosophy for writing. She told me it should "come from the heart, it should come from the soul."
Congratulations michele nelson on being at the "Head of the Class."
