HUDSON, FL -- JoAnn Mcdonald is the kind of teacher her students talk about years after leaving her classroom.
This pre-kindergarten teacher at Northwest Elementary School in Hudson is delightful, engaging, and definitely unforgetable!
She is a favorite among students and also their parents. I received four nomination letters from parents singing her praises.
Shana Stewart writes, "JoAnn goes above and beyond to make sure each and every child enjoys learning. She always puts her heart into teaching."
Stewart's 4-year old son, William, is in McDonald's classroom. She says he loves school so much that he gets upset on the weekends because he can't go.
After learning about her nomination and selection as our Head of the Class Honoree, McDonald told me she was "humbled" and jokingly said, "the honor was doing wonders for her self-esteem."
McDonald got her start in 1993 after being hired as a substitute teacher. She then went on to teach in Bay area christian schools, working with both primary and intermediate aged students.
She found her "calling" in 2002 after being hired to teach pre-k. The rest, as they say, is history!
McDonald says she feels "blessed to be able to work with children every day and celebrates each of their successes, no matter how small."
In addition to her work in the classroom, this busy mother of three also finds time to volunteer each month with her church distributing food to the community.
Congratulations JoAnn McDonald on being at the Head of the Class!
