TAMPA, FL -- Gaither High School family and consumer sciences teacher Becky Burgue is no stranger to awards. This 37-year veteran of the classroom was Hillsborough County's Teacher of the Year in 1996.
Now she can also add "Head of the Class" honoree to her list after being nominated by her colleague and fellow Head of the Class honoree, Joe Mendola.
Mendola, an automotive teacher at Gaither High, thinks Ms. Burgue is pretty special. He writes, "she teaches parenting classes: the little wranglers. She teaches young people how to take care of children and also helps teacher her fellow workers."
Helping others is what Ms. Burgue does best. In addition to her teaching duties, this mother of two also trains new teachers at Gaither High School and is a frequent participant at teaching conferences.
Her enthusiasm and love for teaching are both evident and contagious. Her classroom motto is "Celebrate the journey. Don't wait for the destination."
This week we celebrate you, Ms. Burgue. Congratulations on being at the Head of the Class.
