ALACHUA COUNTY, FL -- If you're going to haul magic mushrooms in your car from one place to another, wearing headphones may prevent you from reaching your destination.
The Florida Highway Patrol says officers pulled over 28-year-old Antonio Miguel Fernandez of Tampa on I-75 Sunday night about three miles south of Gainesville, according to the Gainesville Sun.
He was pulled over because he was wearing a headset. It's against the law for drivers to wear headsets in Florida.
A drug-sniffing K-9 was allowed to poke around Fernandez's 1991 2-door Buick. The dog gave the appropriate signal and troopers found "several jars, coolers, and plastic containers containing Psilocybin mushrooms, as well as other evidence used in the manufacture and delivery of the controlled substance. Marijuana was also discovered in the vehicle."
That would be 36 pounds of mushrooms valued, by law enforcement, to be worth $138,720, or $255 per ounce. The pot was valued at $3,280.
Fernandez was slapped with trafficking in psilocybin, possession and distribution of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, unlawful manufacturing, no motor vehicle registration and attaching a tag not assigned.
He was being held at the Alachua County Jail without headphones.
