FORT PIERCE, FL -- A man is accused of bashing another man's head with a large rock after the alleged attacker and his girlfriend asked to use the telephone.
John Howard Walsh, 27, and his 19-year-old girlfriend had befriended the victim a few days earlier, according to cops.
Walsh and his girlfriend went to the victim's house to use the phone. While Walsh talked on the phone, his girlfriend stepped outside for a cigarette.
That, the victim said, is when Walsh confronted him about “hitting” on his girlfriend.
Walsh then whacked the victim on the head with a rock and demanded his money, according to an affadavit.
The victim, who felt a “large lump” growing on his head, grabbed a gun from his bathroom and chased Walsh.
The girlfriend and a neighbor yelled for the victim not to shoot Walsh. He didn't.
A 9-1-1 call had cops on the scene within minutes and Walsh found out that prison covers rock.
He's charged with aggravated battery and attempted robbery with a deadly weapon.
