Attempted drug sale crumbles

Last Update: 6/23 4:09 pm
A Fort Pierce man needed money to pay his bills, but his plan crumbled.

He is now facing charges after trying to sell bread crumbs as crack cocaine.

A Fort Pierce deputy saw a man, identified as Timothy Allen Riggin, peeking around the rear building of a motel over the weekend.

Riggin ran away from the deputy, but was caught. Investigators turned up several pieces of fake crack cocaine in his pocket.

When investigators found the counterfeit cocaine, Riggin told them it was bread.

Riggin said he was trying to sell the bogus crack to pay bills. He is currently listed as unemployed.

He faces a felony possession of counterfeit controlled substance with intent to sell within 1,000 feet of a convenience store charge and a misdemeanor count of resisting without violence.
