SATSUMA, FL -- An all-out manhunt is underway for a 5-year-old girl who
disappeared from her bed in her Putnam County home.
A nationwide Amber Alert has been issued for Haleigh Cummings (
special report)
, who vanished early Tuesday morning. She is 3 feet tall and 39 pounds, with blonde hair and brown eyes. She was last wearing a pink shirt and underwear. Investigators believe she was abducted, as does her father. "All I want is my child ... please ... all I want is my child," a shaken Ronald Cummings told reporters Wednesday.
The double-wide trailer where she lives had no signs of forced entry, but a back door was open.
Cummings says Haleigh was missing when he returned home from work around 3 a.m. Tuesday. Cummings says his girlfriend, Misty Croslin, was awake and frantic that Haleigh was missing from her bed. She was calling 911 when he arrived home.
Croslin told an emergency dispatcher that she had gone to the bathroom and returned to find the girl gone and a cinder block propping open a screen door.
Dispatch: OK. All right, you said your back door was wide open?
Caller: Yes, with a brick. Like, there was a brick on the floor. Like, when I went to sleep the door was not like that.
More than 130 local and state authorities and the FBI have searched for Haleigh in neighbors' homes and vehicles leaving her neighborhood on the St. Johns River. Marine units also scoured the river.
Family members told investigators that Haleigh was afraid of the dark and would not have wandered out into the night.
“We do believe it is an abduction,” said Major Gary Bowling of the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.
Satsuma is located about 70 miles north of Orlando.
