ORLANDO, FL -- Casey Anthony's attorney asked a judge Monday to move the trial to South Florida.
Jose Baez filed a motion for a change of venue. He told reporters that he didn't believe Casey Anthony (photos) could get a fair trial in Orlando in central Florida due to the excessive local media coverage.
"The local coverage has been so constant and at times so inflammatory that members of the local community have already formed their opinions without even hearing one piece of evidence," Baez said. "This case has become deeply embedded in this community."
Another Anthony attorney, Linda Kenney Baden, told a morning talk show host that constant media coverage makes it impossible for Casey to get a fair trial in the Orlando area.
"Every single day since I've been in this case, which is December 11 there's been a story. Even when there's a non-story there's been a story," said Baden.
Casey Anthony is charged with killing her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee Anthony (photos), who disappeared last summer. The toddler's remains were found last December in a wooded area near the house where she lived with her mother and grandparents.
Casey has pleaded not guilty and claims Caylee was kidnapped by a baby sitter.
Her trial is set for October. Prosecutors say they will ask for the death penalty.
