Wildfires have scorched an estimated 10,000 acres in and around the neighboring towns of Palm Bay and Malabar, built into dense woods along Interstate 95.

Authorities ordered about 500 homes in the northwest part of the Daytona to be evacuated. Dry, windy weather is making matters worse. Crews from Pinellas County have joined in the battle to control the blazes.

Wildfires across central Florida forced hundreds of residents out of their homes, and more areas could be evacuated today.
