StumbleUpon
Still hungry for more social networking? How about stumbling through the Internet?
StumbleUpon is a useful tool for finding what interest you on the internet without having to search through thousands of search engine results.
StumbleUpon is more than a search engine. It works more like a “recommendation engine.”
Oncea user signs up, they are presented with a large list of interests and asked to select every subject that they are interested in.
After selecting their interests, a user clicks the button to “stumble”onto a web page. This is not just a random web page. This page is selected according to the users pre-defined interests as well as recommendations from users with the same interests.
When a user arrives at a webpage, the user can give the page a “thumbs up” or “thumbs down.”StumbleUpon records the user’s rating and in the future will either provide more or less of the same type of page based on the rating. If a user does not have a preference, he or she can simply press “stumble” to go to a different page.
Pages that a user has given a “thumbs up” to are saved in the user’s profile as favorites that can be revisited later.
For a more social experience, users can find their friends on StumbleUpon to share “stumbled” websites with.
And a StumbleUpon toolbar is available that allows users to add a new page to StumbleUpon, rate the page they are visiting, and even stumble through videos or individual sites such as The Onion and CNN.
