LAKE WALES, FL -- Authorities confirm Charles Dallas assigned with the Lakeland Police Department's K-9 unit was killed during a three car crash late Monday afternoon.

Florida Highway Patrol investigated the crash along State Road 25 also known as US Highway 27 and Jackson Street.

Troopers say a station wagon driven by Sharon Kolbinskie of Lake Wales was heading east on State Road 25 from Jackson Street and another car driven by Federico Vasquez of Sebring was traveling south on SR 25 approaching Jackson Street.

Charles Dallas was driving an SUV heading north on SR 25 approaching Jackson Street when troopers say station wagon driver traveled into the path of the Vasquez car.  He tried to avoid the crash and went into the path of the SUV causing the SUV to overturn.  Dallas was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene.

His passenger Karyn Spencer of Lakeland had minor injuries.  No other injuries were reported.  FHP continues to investigate.
