PORT AU PRINCE, HAITI -- US actor John Travolta has landed his own jet in Haiti carrying relief supplies, doctors and Scientology ministers.
The 55-year-old actor flew the Boeing 707 from Florida on Monday. The plane carried four tons of MRE's (meals ready to eat) and medical supplies for Haiti's earthquake
victims.
Travolta made a stopover late Monday at the St. Petersburg-Clearwater Airport to pick up supplies and a group of doctors.
He was accompanied by his wife, actress Kelly Preston.
"We have the ability to actually help make a difference in the situation in aiti and I just can't see not using this plane to help," Travolta said.
The couple planned to return home after unloading their passengers and supplies, according to a statement from The Church of Scientology.
"You know, it's not unlike when I saw, you know my wife an I saw New Orleans. We were there right away, with this airplane, because you know we have the ability and the means to do this so I think you have responsibility on some level to do that," Travolta said.
Travolta, an aviation enthusiast, was 15 when he took his first flying lesson.
