CLEARWATER,FL - In Shannon Jarnagin's bedroom, a large tree branch is poking through the ceiling.

A few feet away, is where she was sleeping in her bed. Today, there's a lot to clean up inside.

Outside it's a mess, too.

It was a scary situation early Saturday when gusty winds toppled a laurel oak tree onto their Cypress Pointe Drive home.

"Well, I'm very nervous today. I'm 75 years old. It's not easy to take." said Joan Lindstrom, Shannon's mom.  Her bedroom was the second one pierced by the tree.

She added she jumped out bed after she heard the tree crack.

"I stepped back for a minute and then I just said 'Lord, get me out of here.'"

Shannon's daughter, Morgan Ruel, remembers frantically calling 9-1-1.

"I was just like, couldn't breathe, just a nervous wreck, like not knowing what just happened, trying to comprehend that a tree was in my house."

The family had a different tree service look at the decaying plant two weeks ago, but workers told them they could wait to take it down.

A 2nd crew that removed the debris today, said it should've been taken down sooner, because something was weakening the oak from within.

"It's a parasite that runs through a whole system of the tree, just like our veins run through our body.", said Frank Norcia.

Firefighters built a makeshift frame, to keep the ceiling from caving in, but everyone will stay at a relative's house, as the clean up continues.

Ironically, that something that brought the tree tumbling down just days before Christmas, turned out to be mistletoe.
