Toyota dealerships make plans for repairs

Last Update: 2/01 10:44 pm

Toyota announced Monday morning it has identified the problem with the sticking accelerators.

With the approval of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the automaker is shipping replacement parts to dealerships nationwide.

"I was concerned. I am on the road all day and safety is first. I wanted to get the problem fixed," says Camry owner Jasmine Lopez.

She is one of millions of affected owners awaiting notice of what to do next. "I am hoping they can fix the problem and everyone can be happy because I love my Toyota."

I spoke with Toyota dealerships in Hillsborough and Pasco counties by phone. They confirm they are awaiting parts and will expand operating hours, in some cases working around the clock, to accommodate owners.

Brazzeal Tire and Service Manager Rick Hicks advises his Toyota driving customers to follow Toyota’s instructions.

"It is unusual that they would step up to this magnitude, but Toyota has a loyal following of customers and they want to take care of their customers," he says.

Toyota says notices are on the way to every affected owner. It will be a gargantuan task that will take an estimated 4 to 5 months to complete.

The needed parts are expected to arrive at local dealerships by week's end.
