NORTH PORT, FL -- Nadia Kashitskaya, a 911 dispatcher from North Port, has been fired after an internal investigation by the North Port Police Department concluded she had violated policy during a recent 911 call.

The call, which occurred earlier this month, came from a man who was reporting that he had seen a body lying next to a truck.

The truck was at the intersection of Lovering Avenue and Salford Boulevard. The caller, however, told the dispatcher the truck was located at "Lovebird" or "Lovesong".

Kashitskaya did not send a police officer to the area, despite the caller later correctly identifying a nearby intersection. She also did not follow other required procedures during a 911 call, the internal investigation found.

The man that the caller had seen was named Brian Wood. The 55-year-old man was dead when police officers later found him.

Police chief Terry Lewis made the decision to fire Kashitskaya. She was informed of the decision on Tuesday.

The police department is still awaiting a report from the medical examiner's office. They want to know if a delayed response may have played a role in Wood's death.
