BROOKSVILLE, FL -- In preparation for the Hazardous Materials Awareness Week, Hernando County wants the public to know their rights when it comes to dangerous chemicals.

The focus of this awareness campaign is just that, awareness on where chemicals may be stored next to your home or business and your child's school.

It is part of The Emergency Planning and Community Right-To-Know Act that helps all residents in Florida to have information that may prove vital should an emergency arise from a hazardous incident.

One of the priorities for this public campaign is to inform residents of several key elements to stay safe in an emergency:

1. learn an evacuation route for the home, work site and schools.

2. what facilities and chemicals may be located nearby

3. evacuation routes for home, work and schools

4. industry and community warning systems
