A Chicago man who allegedly robbed a bank and apologized as he left was arrested after he deposited some of the dye-stained cash into his bank account.
Victor Delfi told FBI agents that he woke up on June 12 and realized that he had no money. He decided to rob a bank to solve his problem.
He stole a pair of pantyhose from a thrift store, then walked to a nearby savings bank.
Delfi put the pantyhose over his head, the walked inside the bank and announce he had a gun and was robbing the bank, according to a report.
The teller handed over $5,179.50.
As Delfi left the bank, the report says he turned and said, "I'm sorry. Times are hard. I have to feed my family."
A dye pack inside the bag exploded, but Delfi decided to deposit the cash.
He deposited $600 of stained cash at two different bank branches before he tried depositing $590 in the drive-through window of a third bank branch.
Bank employees saw the stains and called police, who arrested Delfi.
He has been charged with one count of bank robbery.
