A liquor store shoplifter recently delayed his escape after he made one last gamble.

According to a report, Shawn M. Piering of Hartford can be seen stuffing a bottle of Jack Daniel's into his clothing on a security camera video.

Piering then decided to test his luck by entering a raffle to win a ticket to a speedway race.

After filling out the form at the store's counter, Piering snatched two more bottles before leaving the store.

The store clerk didn't attempt to stop Piering after she saw him fill out the ticket. The box had been emptied the day before, so Piering's ticket was the only piece of paper in the box.

After the store clerk called the police, she opened the box and handed the information to officers, who drove to Piering's home.

When officers confronted Piering, he appeared to be intoxicated. He returned the store's liquor bottles, but struggled with the officer attempting to arrest him.

Piering was charged with misdemeanor retail theft, resisting an officer and disorderly conduct. He was ordered to stay away from the liquor store and is out on $750 bond before a May hearing.

Needless to say, he didn't win the raffle.
