A man who allegedly burglarized a church while naked attacked officers at the police evidence unit less than a day after being released from jail.
Police say Daniel Saunders went to pick up his property taken during a previous arrest, despite being wanted on a felony warrant.
When officers tried to detain him, he "violently resisted arrest and fought with the officers" using a screwdriver, according to police spokesman Jeff Kappel.
Saunders was previously charged with second-degree burglary and first-degree malicious mischief for the incident at the Unity Church of God in Christ.
Prosecutors asked that he be held on $25,000 bail because he was released from jail just hours before the church arrest. Instead, bail was set at $10,000 and he received a conditional release.
Due to a King County Prosecutor's Office error, Saunders was released from jail hours after charges were filed against him.
At the time of his initial arrest near the church, Saunders, bloody and nude, repeatedly told police he was "going home." The phrase is thought to be a reference to the fact that his brother hanged himself at the church in 1980.
Church officials called in a biohazard cleaning crew to remove blood, which covered parts of a trophy case, around a mirror and doors. Parishioners were cleaning up the blood but were told to stop after being told Saunders was HIV-positive, the Rev. James Hicks, the church pastor, told television news crews.
Police say Saunders was found wandering near the church with the license plate of a white truck he vandalized. Officers found him with"multiple deep lacerations on his arms and legs," according to court documents.
Saunders may face additional charges for his alleged conduct at the police station.
